I came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night when they had live music. The atmosphere was really nice and I loved the cool decor they had inside. There is one of those oval shaped stickers with the letters NaCl for salt near the stage area which I found funny. The best word I can think of to describe the interior is eclectic. There were old records, posters, guitars, signs, you name it. There is an old-fashioned and rustic feel to this place which I liked.

I do have 2 main complaints; one is that the neighboring tables and chairs were placed a little too close to each other so the main seating area felt a little squished. I guess I like a little more space and privacy when I go out to a restaurant. My other one is that they had a big speaker near our table  playing live music which was extremely loud -but we asked to switch tables before our food arrived so then it wasn't as bad.

As for the food, we ordered the Salt Burger and Fish & Chips. I thought both were rather tasty but the burger was my favorite (5/5). The juicy meat was cooked and seasoned really well, so definitely one of the best burgers I have had. I also really enjoyed the sriracha aioli and dipped my fries in it. You should definitely try their burger for a classic menu choice. I liked the fish & chips but I would have liked more flavor on the fish (3.5/5). They also have homemade ketchup, but I think I'm used to the flavor of Heinz so theirs tasted a little bland or something (not sure, just had a different taste). In all, I enjoyed our time at Salt as well as the food even though there were aspects of the place that could be improved in my opinion!

Long time customer, will not be returning.

If I were to write a review for Salt, 5 years ago, I would have made it 5 stars. My wife and I have been going to Salt for about 5 or 6 years now and had always enjoyed the place. They truly had a unique place and the food quality was up there with some high scale restaurants I have been to. Its been a little while since out last visit and boy did the experience change.

We arrived at around 5:15 pm, well before rush hour (there was only one other couple there besides us). We were both pretty hungry so we ordered appetizers in addition to our main meals.

    The Wait...
The appetizers took over an hour to come out. We had to track down our waiter to get refills. Then, another hour of waiting for the main course to come out. Remeber, there were only 1 or 2 other people there.

    The Food...
The appetizer (avocado and smoked salmon toast) was exceptional. We loved it. The salad was too salty and had little or no dressing on it. My wife got a Salt Burger, which was excellent the last time we came here, but not this time. For a gourmet hamburger, there was nothing to it. Brioche bun and hamburger patty, no lettuce, tomato onion or cheese. They actually charged a dollar extra for cheese on top of a $16 hamburger. The hand cut fries were soggy and greasy. The big problem was the taste. Not in a rancid way but more in the mixture of the meat. I believe they mixed our beef burger with the lamb/ beef burger (a special on the menu). I like lamb and know how it tastes (my wife hates lamb). I could taste lamb flavor. Anyway, when we asked the server to check he took another 15 minutes and got the manager (see below). My dinner was the "summer Grill", which consisted of one, 6-inch piece of Keilbosi, cut in half, three small medallions of hanger steak and four strips of chicken the size of my index finger that tasted like Perdue "Shortcuts". The dish also came with pork and beans in a bowl. For $23, There were no sauces or seasonings on any of it. Very bland, I kept dipping everything in the beans.

    The price...
Salt is not a cheap restaurant. Plates range from $17 to $25. If the portions are going to be as small as they are, they better have some amazing quality. To be honest I could have cooked both the burger and the "Summer Grill" on my grill at home for about 1/3 the money.

    The service...
This was probably the worst part of it. In all seriousness, my wife and I NEVER complain to the staff about our food. In fact, I think I have only sent back a dish one other time in my life. We were quiet and low key about the burger because we didn't want to ruin other guests experiences. For the manager to be accusatory and defensive about it surprised me. She offered something else from the menu and took the burger away, I assumed we wouldn't be charged for it since we didn't eat anything on the plate except one bite out of the burger. Well, they didn't take the burger off the bill and charged for the salad my wife got in place of it.

At the end of the day, we drove 40 minutes out of the way to eat here and I can think of about 5 other restaurants I would have spent that $70 at for way better food and service. Reading other reviews here, this doesn't seem to be an isolated incident, so we will not be returning.

Enjoyed a meal here with family recently. There was live music and a good selection of drinks and things to eat. Being GF that can always be a challenge.

It's definitely a relaxed low-key environment which was really cool and it feels homey while your there.

We ordered the poutine for an app and it was pretty good (I've had others that were more flavorful), ribs were also good. I ordered the grill platter and my meal was good but slightly cold. They also never asked how I'd like my steak cooked for the platter and it came out much more rare than I would've liked, and therefore had my husband eat.

My sister and her bf and my husband enjoyed their meals. Cool spot and decent food, would return.

I have eaten here many times and the food is great! I especially like the Chicken Paprikash in the winter. I also held a party here and it was wonderful! The food options were great, and each guest had many choices to choose from for both appetizer and dinner. The owners were a delight to deal with, and I would highly recommend this restaurant for both dining and parties.

This place never disappoints! Love how they switch up the menu during different times of the year to include local and fresh ingredients. Honey siracha wings are delicious! The staff is friendly and they have live music some nights. Always a great selection of craft beers.
